Am I ready to hire a designer?

Hiring a designer to tackle a design project in your house is always a great idea. Who am I to say the opposite? Here are a few ideas to help you get ready and ensure a good start to a successful partnership :

  • Clarify Your Needs:

Before reaching out to a designer, identify the specific areas in which you require assistance. Clearly define the spaces you want to work on, outline your goals, and if you can, try to establish an initial budget (don’t worry if you can’t, we can help you with that!). Decide the extent of your involvement in the design process versus what you prefer to delegate to the designer.

  • Gather Inspiration:

Collect images of items, materials, fabrics, and colors that resonate with you.  This collection serves as a visual guide to convey your preferences and dislikes to the collaborators working on your project.

  • Choose the Right Fit:

Selecting the right designer is crucial. While design style is a consideration, prioritize the designer's personality. Given the intimate nature of the collaboration, feeling comfortable with the person entering your space and understanding your lifestyle is paramount.

  • Evaluate Design Skills:

Assess the designer's ability to work with various patterns, colors, furniture styles, materials, and spatial concepts. A versatile designer who can seamlessly transition between styles indicates creativity and a commitment to achieving both beauty and functionality.

  • Have faith in the Process:

Recognize that designing a space is a multi-step process. The initial phase involves data collection on your lifestyle and preferences. Embrace questionnaires and meetings as opportunities for your designer to understand your tastes. Patience during this phase is essential for a successful outcome.

  • Embrace Open Communication:

Foster open communication during the initial phase, allowing for back-and-forth discussions to ensure mutual understanding. This collaborative approach lays the foundation for a design that truly reflects your personality and preferences.

  • Trust Your Designer:

Finally, trust is a crucial element in the design process. Once you've chosen a designer, be open-minded and willing to step out of your comfort zone. Embrace the fresh perspectives and suggestions they bring, allowing for a space that not only surprises you positively but also feels tailor-made for your lifestyle.
